John makes a good justification for this RCP. I support this proposal.
As one who has only ever competed in one NARAM craftsmanship event, Classic Model at NARAM-60, and who did so with a model of relatively low difficulty both for the build and the paint scheme, I’ve wondered why “similarity of outline” and such got such a big chunk of the score, even though it helped me that time.
This is a long winded way to say that I agree with this proposal, even if it might make my life a little harder after NARAM this year.
This is a great idea and awards the right behavior for scale modelers.
Full support on this one. And John has judged for years, so this isn’t a random RCP. Someone with very good basis on a good change. I hope people will read the rules and approve this one. Thanks John, long overdue, IMO.
“experience shows that almost all entries generally adhere well to the outline of the modeled prototype.” The occasional exceptions embodied in “almost all” have been notable, such as when a commenter above who shall remain nameless entered an Aerobee 350’s first stage as a Nike Smoke : ) But close enough for judging work! We will still have enough SoO points for dealing with things like a Mercury-Redstone’s oversized kit fins, and I’ll just have to work past the muscle memory to score D Region Tomahawks with engine clips hanging out the back at 98 instead of 196.
