I absolutely support this proposal.
I support this RCP.
I say yes to this rule change.
Time waits for no one and what is classic for me (who started rocketry in the sixties) won’t be the same as someone who started in the eighties, nineties or whenever.
I still love to make classic Estes and Centuri reproduction kits from when I started but that shouldn’t restrict what younger rocketeers are allowed to make.
I believe a floating boundary would be good for the hobby. A modern classic and an ancient classic are still classics, and all should be celebrated as such.

I am in favor of this change as it seems to me that the original intent of classic model was to be similar to the classic definition for show cars…etc where the cutoff is based on a set number of years, not a specific year.
Great idea.
Maybe specify that it’s “calendar year”, since we also have a “contest year” (though I’m not sure how anyone could be confused).
thanks for submitting this Kevin. Great idea.
I’m in favor of this change. Twenty years seems a bit arbitrary, but it is as good as any number at least that large and opens the field to provide a LOT more options for this event.
I am in support of this RCP.
Re: Rationale for 20 years- I picked that timeframe mainly to align with terms like Classic, Antique and Vintage as used in talking about cars. Here’s what the insurer of my historic tagged vehicle has to say:
Classic Car: Manufactured 2000 or earlier (>20 years old)
Antique Car: Manufactured 1975 or earlier (>45 years old). Either a “survivor” or restored in conformance to the original manufacturer specifications
Vintage Car: Manufactured between 1919 and 1930. Either a “survivor” or restored in conformance to the original manufacturer specifications

In general I like this idea. There aren’t any models I wished that were pre-1990 that I’d immediately want to do for Classic, but I’ll bet there are a few.
I’m with Ed about 20 years. Maybe 25? But then — whatever the number is, more deserving models will be eligible each year.
For reasons already listed, I, too, like this idea. It reduces the admin overhead, too, since with a floating boundary we won’t have to deal with repeated requests to update it.
