What is the NARTREK Senior Program

NARTREK stands for "National Association of Rocketry Training Rocketeers for Experience and Knowledge." This program consists of a series of self-paced achievement levels in rocketry. Each requiring more skill to complete than the previous one. As each level is finished, you receive an Achievement Certificate.

When you complete the entire NARTREK program, you will be capable of designing, building, and safely flying nearly every type of rocket. You will be ready to progress into the most advanced areas of rocketry—high power rocketry, national or international competition, advanced technical research, and more.

Notice: If you have a family or teacher membership, you must have a unique email address, user name and password to access the NARTREK program. Please contact NAR HQ at: 319-373-8910.

NARTREK Program:

  • Is open to members of the NAR. Click here to become a member.
  • NARTREK is a self-paced program for NAR members designed to improve your knowledge and skill in rocketry step-by-step.
  • NARTREK is for all modelers—young and old!
  • NARTREK operates on the honor system.
  • NARTREK is administered by a staff of experienced volunteers who work with you via email to help solve your problems.
  • NARTREK uses commercially available rocket kits whenever possible.
  • NARTREK is designed to be low-cost to you. You buy your own kits, motors, equipment, and supplies.
  • You must have built and flown at least one single-stage rocket using a kit.
  • You must have your own launching equipment. Your NAR Section may use a rack launch system, but it is important that you understand the fundamentals of the ignition and launching of sport rockets. This equipment is inexpensive and will last you for many years.
  • You must know and abide by the NAR Model Rocket Safety Code and High Power Rocket Safety Code. All NARTREK activities are based upon the NAR Safety Codes.
  • You must understand the NAR Rocket Motor Coding System.
