NARTREK Junior Beginner (NJ1)

Welcome to the NARTREK Junior Beginner program! The beginner credential will introduce you to the NAR model rocket safety code, launching and rocket motors. Each credential includes a reading, building, and launching segment. Each credential builds upon and adds to the skills learned in the previous credential. Students need to complete all three segments for each credential, then submit the requirements through the website.


As each level is completed, you will receive an 
Achievement Certificate.  

 

The NARTREK Junior Program

  • Is open to members of the NAR.
  • Is age appropriately designed to improve the knowledge and skills of modelers under age 18.
  • Modelers can work alone, with an affiliated NAR section, class, youth or after school group.
  • Operates on the honor system.
  • Uses commercially available rocket kits whenever possible.
  • Is designed to be low-cost. You buy your own kits, motors, equipment.
  • You will learn the NAR Model Rocket Safety Code.
  • You will learn the NAR rocket motor coding system.
  • NAR Sections can provide the guidance, expertise, and resources to make the Junior participation very rewarding.

NARTREK Junior Beginner Requirements:

Part 1— Read over the Model Rocket Safety Code and the NAR Model Rocket Motor Coding System. When you register, you are sent an email. Follow the link within the email to take the test, your score must be 80% or better.


Part 2—
Watch the video to gain a working knowledge of how to launch a rocket, or seek help from a local NAR club or another adult, such as a parent or teacher to fly your rocket. Purchase a Estes Beginner level rocket (for example: Estes Riptide or Athena) Please see the resource page for more rocket suggestions and information for this credential. The kit should be a “ready to fly” or a “snap together” kit.  Take a picture of the model to submit.  


Part 3—
Fly and successfully recover an Estes Beginner rocket, 2 times. Use a different size motor for each launch. Use motors of no more than a “B” total impulse. 


Once you have completed the requirements and taken the test, please follow this link to complete your certification.

There are no fees, this program is a benefit of your membership and is free to all members.

To Register

1.) Go to the Members dropdown menu and choose the Continuing Education tab. 
2.) Choose the NARTREK Junior Beginner Credential, click Take Course.
3.) Follow the registration process. 
4.) Complete the course requirements listed above.
