NARTREK Junior Advanced (NJ3)
Welcome to the NARTREK Junior Advanced program! The Advanced credential will teach you different recovery systems. Each level includes a reading, building, and launching segment. Each credential builds upon and adds to the skills learned in the previous credential. Students need to complete all three segments for each credential, then submit the requirements through the website.
As each level is completed, you will receive an Achievement Certificate.
NARTREK Junior Advanced Level Requirements:
Part 1—Read over the NARTREK Recovery Systems page. When you register, you are sent an email. Follow the link within the email to take the test, your score must be 80% or better.
Part 2—Purchase an Intermediate skill level rocket kit and one parachute. The intermediate kit should have balsa or paper fins and a streamer recovery system. (for example: Estes Viking or Estes Wizard ) Please see the Resources for more rocket suggestions and information for this level. Read the instructions and build the model rocket. A video is available to help understand how to switch the recovery system on the model rocket. Take a picture of your model with each of the recovery systems to submit. *The recovery system must be seen or noted in the picture.
Part 3—Fly and successfully recover the rocket with the streamer recovery system. Then change out the streamer recovery system with the parachute recovery system and fly the model. The models should be flown and recovered on both recovery systems, 2 times. Use motors of no more than a “C” total impulse.
