Additional Notes: Hi, so I have flown many L1 dual deploy flights – but I won’t have my L2 until later this month. Doing that on a J275W – Wildman 5″ Jart. I would really like to fly this rocket with the L900 dark matter but I think those are a fire hazard here in Colorado. So I have a L1420 as an alternative. Rocket is internal and external fillets – Redundant altimeters with gps and back up RDF. The MW have been thoughly tested and I think they are very reliable.
Name: James Flesner
NAR or TRA Number: 102149
Certification Level: 3
Rocket Name: Mile High Too
Kit or Scratch Built?: Scratch
Height: 136″
Diameter: 6″
Weight: 72 Pounds
Primary Construction Materials: Fiberglass and Carbon Fiber
Motors: Aerotech M1939
Electronics: Missile Works RRc3, Eggtimer Quark
Additional Onboard Electronics, (GPS, Cameras, Etc.)*: Apogee simple gps. Two runcam split 4k’s.
Recovery Devices: 96″ main parachute, 42″ drogue.
Expected Altitude: 12,000 feet
First Flight?: No
Rail Buttons: 1515
Additional Notes: I have flown this rocket three times (Aerotech L2500, Aerotech M2400, Aerotech M4500). Its first flight was with the L2500 which was a test flight for my L3 Cert. Unfortunately the main parachute did not open and the rocket sustained major damage to one of the fins. I fixed the fin and the problem with the parachute not opening and I have had 2 successful flights since. I had on board video for the M4500 but unfortunately it cut out a few seconds after apogee. I am hoping to diagnose this and fix this problem before NSL. If you are interested in the build, fix, or the launches, check out Crunchly’s Adventures on YouTube.
Name: Matthew Slater
NAR or TRA Number: 103600
Certification Level: 3
Rocket Name: Ad Astra
Kit or Scratch Built?: Scratch
Height: 51″
Diameter: 2.24″
Weight: About 10.5 lbs
Primary Construction Materials: Fiberglass and Carbon Fiber
Motors: Loki L1040
Electronics: Telemetrum, Runcam Thumb
Additional Onboard Electronics, (GPS, Cameras, Etc.)*: I have an internally mounted Runcam Thumb pro, and the Telemetrum for the deployment and tracking.
Recovery Devices: Head end dual deploy
Expected Altitude: Hoping for 40,000ft AGL
First Flight?: Yes
Rail Buttons: 1010
Additional Notes: I will not be needing a rail, I have my own tower to launch it out of and am planning to set that up at the 500ft flight line. Weather permitting, my plan is to have it ready to go first thing in the morning the first day. My internal camera only has 30min of battery life so I will need to launch as soon as possible to pressing record. Doing it first thing in the morning should prevent that interfering with other launch operations. I will have the TRA L record paperwork filled out prior to this since I think this has a chance of breaking it. I am looking forward to NSL west again, thank you for hosting!

Additional Notes: I’ve flown Hoshi 1 four times successfully on the following motors (all Aerotech): L1365M, M1500G (twice), and O5500X. Its most recent flight was with the O motor on 12/30/2023 at my club’s (Albuquerque Rocket Society’s) high altitude launch site just north of the White Sands Missile Range to an apogee of just over 36,000 ft. The nosecone and upper body tube took significant mach rash, requiring me to strip and repaint it (which I haven’t done yet). The rocket was otherwise unscathed. I plan to keep with the NASA paint them but with slight modifications.
