CHARTERING CHECKLIST

Use this checklist to plan and monitor your progress as you go through the work necessary to form a club and charter a Section.


INITIAL PUBLICITY

To be done by individual or group.

  • Contact hobby shop owners for support.
  • Print up colorful posters with:
    • date and time of meeting/launch;
    • location of meeting/launch;
    • person to contact for more information.
  • Put up posters in hobby shops.
  • Print up flyers with similar information on them.
  • Pass out the flyers in hobby shops.
  • Run a 'rocket raffle' to collect names.
  • Put up posters in toy, craft, convenience, and food stores.
  • Put public service announcements on local radio.
  • Keep sending announcements to media.
  • Check schools for existing rocket clubs.

DEMONSTRATION LAUNCH

Static display at a demonstration Requires an existing group.

  • Contact a hobby shop for support or sponsorship.
  • Publicize demonstration using methods outlined.
  • Secure permission to use launch site.
  • Prepare equipment:
    • public address system;
    • rack or satellite launchers;
    • flag or rope barriers;
    • chairs and tables;
    • tested, proven, safe models;
    • engines and other supplies;
    • flyers & applications for spectators.
  • Fly different model types.
  • Raffle off simple kits to stir interest.
  • Have a sign-up sheet for interested rocketeers.
  • Clean the site thoroughly after the demo.
  • Send thank you notes to everyone involved.

ORGANIZING YOUR SECTION

To be done by individual or group.

  • Publicize meeting using methods outlined.
  • Get an adult leader to run the first meeting.
  • Discuss each aspect of your rocket club:
    • name
    • purpose
    • officers
    • dues
    • elections
    • membership
    • committees
    • amendments
    • regular meetings
  • Schedule a meeting to vote on bylaws in two weeks.

CHARTERING AN NAR SECTION

Requires an existing group.

  • Get five NAR members who want to form a Section.
  • One of the five must be a Senior, and serve as Senior Advisor to the club.
  • Access our on-line charter application.
  • Fill out the form online and submit it using a credit card; or mail two copies of the application, signed by the advisor, with the correct fees to NAR Headquarters.
  • Contact the SAC Chairman for assistance or information.

Modeler and high-power rocket.REGULAR SECTION ACTIVITIES

  • Schedule regular sport launches for your members.
  • Organize trips to contests and conventions. Have members report on them after they return.
  • Continue to fly local demonstration launches in order to attract new members.
  • Organize your own contest, sanctioned or unsanctioned.
  • Have experienced members talk about construction techniques, design rules, or special tools at your regular meetings.
  • Have members give reports of their new models and display them at meetings.
