Certification Testing

The NAR requires modelers wishing to become certified to use rocket motors in the J through L classes to take a brief written examination. The purpose of the test is to demonstrate knowledge of the regulations and laws pertaining to high power rocketry. Questions concerning basic rocket technical knowledge, e.g., center of pressure and center of gravity relationships, will also be included.

The examination consists of 33 questions in multiple choice format, chosen from a pool of 50-100 questions and answers. The passing grade is 88%. The test may be taken only once in a 30-day period, and must be completed prior to the flight requirement.

PLEASE NOTE: The online test has been disabled until we can update with the current information.

If you want to obtain a sequential copy of the entire question pool for study offline, you can download the entire question pool in PDF format . *NOTE This has been updated to reflect the 2008 version.** If your computer cannot interpret the PDF format, you can request a written copy of the question pool by e-mailing NAR Headquarters.
