FOR STANDARD MOTORS (18mm)
AWN-XXII Dave Cook set a world record of 668 meters in S2A (C Payload) with this design. Like all early payload models, this model rocket was designed to loft the early standard 1 ounce payload, which was a cylinder of lead. NAR rules today specify using a 1 ounce cylinder of sand, which is larger than a cylinder of lead. FAI spacemodeling competition rules still require a 1 ounce cylinder of lead. The AWN-XXII is a low-drag, efficient design, but excellent craftsmanship turned an ordinary model rocket into a world-class record setter. Dave Cook spent many hours sanding and polishing his record-setting model to a perfect finish.
