4H and NAR Partnership Announcement
4H and NAR announced at the TARC 2007 finals on May 19 they have formed a partnership and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This partnership begins with 4-H developing a prominent role in Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) for 2008. The purpose of the partnership is for an ever developing and ongoing exchange between the organizations that will help students learn about model rocketry and other aerospace topics to improve their knowledge, understanding, skills, and abilities in science, engineering, and technology.
This agreement established between the organizations on the national level has strategies for implementation and impact on the local level. The partnership includes opportunities for cooperating in joint activities such as TARC training and model rocket launching, contests, science fairs, design challenges, sport launch events, and other activities of mutual interest.
NAR brings in model rocketry knowledge and capability through its mentors and sections. 4H provides the established youth groups to participate in rocketry and the adult leadership of youth in joint programs. The NAR expertise can propagate through the large 4H organization with NAR sections meeting and working with their local 4H groups.
NAR and 4H are developing communication lines to connect and share local and national information, starting with this link http://www.national4-hheadquarters.gov/ and discussion about TARC on http://4hblogs.org/ccn/#news1_JUNE07. Soon NAR members will easily be able to find their local 4H groups and 4H groups can likewise contact them. The interaction should especially grow during TARC registration.
The NAR contact point for the partnership is Vince Huegele, NAR Education Committee Chair.
